At Western Province Preparatory School, we believe that true learning extends beyond the classroom. From Grade N and R, boys participate in two dedicated afternoons of Sport Skills, a specialised programme created specifically for Wetpups. These sessions focus on developing core movement, balance, coordination, and gross motor skills, ensuring that each boy builds a strong foundation for the main sporting codes offered in the Junior and Senior Prep years.
As they move into Grades 1 and 2, sport becomes an integrated and essential part of the school day. Boys enjoy two afternoons of compulsory sport per week, alternating between cricket and swimming in summer, and rugby and hockey in winter. These activities strengthen the groundwork laid in the Pre-Prep years and nurture positive values such as perseverance, teamwork, and resilience. By Grade 3, the boys are ready to participate in friendly interschool matches across various disciplines, entering this next phase with confidence, enthusiasm, and a solid understanding of the game.
Complementing our core sports programme is a carefully selected range of private extra-murals. These activities enhance our sporting pathways and offer boys the chance to develop additional skills while exploring their interests. Whether improving agility, coordination, creativity, or social confidence, these extra-murals allow boys to grow in ability and passion while enjoying the camaraderie of being active with their peers.
Cultural and creative activities form an equally important part of our offering. These programmes support the boys’ all-round development by fostering curiosity, imagination, leadership, time management, problem-solving, and teamwork. They provide purpose, build self-esteem, and give every boy space to discover new strengths.
