At WPPS, academics go beyond grades to focus on who a boy is becoming. This is the real learning — sparking curiosity, nurturing creativity, and shaping young men who live out respect, integrity, courage, compassion, humility, and accountability. We want every boy to grow in knowledge and understanding, but also in the skills and mindset he needs to flourish in a complex and ever-changing world.
Our passionate, well-qualified staff provide a cohesive and integrated learning experience that connects learning areas meaningfully and develops both critical and creative thinking. We differentiate our teaching – often with the collaboration of co-teachers – to meet boys where they are, encouraging each one to grow at his own pace while holding high expectations for their potential.
In the Foundation Phase, structured play is the heart of the curriculum. This is where curiosity, imagination, and a love of learning take root. In each of our Pre-Primary classes, we have the invaluable support of an assistant. The boys enjoy their own well-equipped playground, which encourages gross motor development, while creative activities, music, and educational games prepare them for the more formal learning environment of Grade 1.
As boys move through Grades 1 to 3, the foundation for future learning is laid. Lessons and activities encourage independence and confidence, while also challenging them to think critically and creatively.
As they progress into the Senior Prep years, the learning environment becomes more structured, but the emphasis remains on how to think, not simply what to think, and on learning how to lead oneself. We believe desirable academic performance is underpinned by essential life skills such as adaptability, grit, teamwork, and self-leadership — qualities that educational research consistently links to long-term success.
We also aspire to raise solutionaries. A solutionary is not simply a problem-solver, but someone who critically examines the root causes of entrenched challenges and devises sustainable, just, and compassionate solutions.
Class sizes allow for close, supportive connections between teachers and boys. While the curriculum is rooted in the South African CAPS framework, we extend beyond it, offering a well-balanced programme that includes languages, mathematics, natural sciences, social sciences, creative arts, technology, and social and emotional learning.
At every stage, our approach is boy-centred. We want boys to take ownership of their learning, develop independence, and grow into young men who think deeply, ask thoughtful questions, and engage with the world around them with confidence, compassion, and curiosity.
